On Granite Wall

By

Doris Kennard

(MIA Mike May’s Mother)

One by one … side by side

Row on row...on Panels wide

Town by town … state by state

Name by name …etched in slate

Husband, son, brother, friend…Boy next door on end

Fathers pride, mothers joy…barely men...more nearly boy

Not quite dry behind of ears…Left for Nam while country jeers

Stile they left filled with pride…fought the fight for scoffers died

Died for them to keep them free…free to run …seek amnesty

Heroes all…loyal, true…gave their lives…for me…for you

Selflessly for their land… fought and died with valor grand

Many names etched in stone…One stands out…. stands alone

That dear name…I love so well…Holds me fast bound in a spell

My son gave…gave his all…all to be…on granite wall

One by one … side by side

Row on row...on Panels wide

Town by town … state by state

Name by name …etched in slate

On granite wall…One granite wall.
